mozzy heart looks like some cgi junk, sorry but if I were awarding merit for photography then it would at least need to have subject matter that had some recognisable form. The bird of paradise seed would be my pick out of this bunch, hornets nest second place; the restlook like they've been knocked up in photoshop.
Look, you guys dont know whether or not its fake so why think of it as the worst thing? Just trust what they say and calm down. Maybe you guys are just jealouse you didnt get an award. And also you might be hurting the people who give the awards and the people who get the awards!
An utter lack of scientific knowledge/education/understanding is not an excuse for labeling these pictures as having been "knocked up in photoshop". The lack of curiosity to find out how these photomicrographs were taken is even more appalling. The scientific knowledge, techniques and expertise that went into the experiments from which these few pictures were taken, ought to blow your mind and give you an appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the scientific endeavour.
