Why in the world would you let a German robot stab you? I understand the need for research into soft tissue injuries, but still...
and that caridosnake doesn't seem like a good idea.
@XXI_ZAPHOD_IXX
The German robot is not designed to cut you. I don't know why they implied that. It is designed NOT to cut you.
It is designed for soft tissue injury research. It has sensors specifically designed to tell the difference between the densities of human flesh and the materials it is cutting. This allows it to stop instantly upon detection of human contact (normally breaking the skin by less than the 1mm).
This technology has been in use in a lot of other technologies (Table saws for instance). Now it is moving into applications for more than just fixed blades. This is a radical safety improvement i cannot wait to see hit the industry.
I find these developments very disconcerting, to say the least. Why is it always the military, which has to be on the forefront of inventing destructive technology - as if we don't have enough of that already!? Of course I know the answer: The military has the almost limitless financial power to do so. Why can't we have a peace-dept.? Just as well-financed and without any weapons and destructive purposes? Peace is what we need, not war!
My only hope is that on the day when these manmade machines take over, they are actually so much smarter than us that they will make better decisions than we humans did. Because as a whole, we humans are obviously destroying ourselves and the entire planet with us. And this leaves me with only one conclusion: As a whole, we humans are actually the dumbest species on earth.
Unfortunately, machines won't need nature to survive. Or us.

Seriously, this unarticle should have a byline so I know who to blame. Damn. The humor here is weak and so easily misread as technophobia....
"The German robot is not designed to cut you. I don't know why they implied that. It is designed NOT to cut you."
Ditto the punching robot.
Fascinating. This should unite the conspiracy theorists and the Chicken Little ("the sky is falling, the sky is falling") crowd. Reasonably useful and mostly benign machines lumped together along with a misdirection. Neat! These developments can now be interpreted as some sort of communal threat. Slow science news month, boys?
