All artists face rejection at some point in their careers, and Wafaa Bilal—the NYU professor and artist who had a camera implanted in the back of his head in December—is no exception. Bilal underwent surgery on Friday to have part of the camera apparatus removed after his body rejected one of three titanium posts implanted in his head.
Until he can figure out a different configuration (and until his wound heals) Bilal is continuing his project by tying the camera to the back of his neck.
I just got one thing to say. REJECTED!!
This is art? Yeah, like a crucifix in urine is...
This was completely pointless. The camera was just implaneted because of the "WOW" and "strange" factors. I can garentee this; the "real-world" behind you isn't so real if everyone is staring at your head.
I'm sorry his idea failed, but since I saw no merit in it, I can't help but smirk at the issue with his publicity stunt. Rear-view camera: cool. Implanted: pointless.
Try superglue next time.
Couldn't he of worn a god damned hat?
We always joked about my mom having eyes on the back of her head. I wonder if this guy has children.
I want to add he got this done at a TATTOO SHOP!!! tattoo shops are licensed to do what is considered minor surgery. There is a good chance if he had a real doctor and not a high-school drop out perform this "surgery" then he might have had a better chance.
and when they say rejected they really mean puss shooting infected.
I respect art and artists, but this guy comes across as one of those "oh so cool" morons.
Wouldn't surprise me if he saved the puss and the video of his surgery for some sort of a tableau.
so.. at this point.. wouldn't a cleverly designed hat done the same thing?
he'd even be able to lay his head down comfortably.
This is truly a silly, silly man. His notion, his idea would have been best served as a notion or simply the idea. The idea was the product, the result.
This is one step up from a frat boy dare. Because he's at NYU we give it some credibility however if this stunt would have been part of a Jackass episode we would have viewed it as an entirely different light.
He's an arrogant fool.
"I wonder if this guy has children."
If someone is willing to mate with a moron who implants a camera into the back of his head in a tattoo shop (apparently), then the US is doomed.
Who cares? *yawn*? <- intelligent answer.
i remember reading this article awhile ago, however im not suprised it wasnt a success consitering they actually have to mount it to the implant. also for other posters your comments are just ignorant.
