Well this is sure to ruin everyone's day all at once.
Relaxing is bad for your health. I bet nobody saw that coming.
While I can believe that sitting has it's negatives, this article has a lot of sensationalism.
"40 percent higher risk than those who don't." OK, but what is the actual number. If the basic risk is 1 in 10,000, then a 40 per cent increase is 1.4 in 10,000. If the base risk is 1 in 10 then it's a lot worse.
The article is full of these kind of vagueries making it a nice sensation piece.
Surely life insurance companies keep track of this sort of thing, yet (at least in the past) you got better rates in a sedentary job than in a blue collar job which mostly implies very little sitting.
We need to declare war on chairs. Stools too. They've murdered us with impunity too long. We now have the technology to counter their insidious threat.
Standing in one place all day is just as bad if not worse so the real answer is to alternate between positions.
