Kids these days, right? You’ve always been able to build some pretty impressive systems with Erector Sets, but this may be the best: a build-it-yourself robotic kit named Meccanoid G15 KS.

Meccanoid is about the size of a small child (it’s designed for kids 10 and up) and looks like something that could be a friend replacement. It has a few pre-programmed actions, but to get more personal, you can program Meccanoid by recording motions and sounds, or plug in a smartphone, which allows the bot to mimic you using motion-capture.

What’s more, Meccanoid is a open source, so the programming options are nearly endless, and you can customize it further, since it’s compatible with any of your old Erector Set parts.
