To increase torquewithout increasing bulk, DeWalt’s engineers split the motor’s casing into multiple pieces, allowing them to squeeze in more power-producing copper coils. DeWalt also developed a manufacturing technique that puts more copper into the wasted space between the wires in the middle of the motor. The extra copper creates a stronger magnetic field—and more oomph to help you drill, saw, or grind faster.
