The new trailer for the upcoming movie Star Trek Beyond is here.

This trailer doesn’t include much new footage, dialogue, or plot points. For that, we’re going to have to wait for the opening of the movie on July 22. However, it is pretty much wall-to-wall action and explosion sequences.

Judging a movie by its trailer is about as useful as judging a book by its cover, but this latest teaser is making some of the Star Trek fans in the Popular Science offices nervous.

The footage we’ve seen so far has all the trappings of the next chapter in the Star Trek saga — the uniforms, the crashing Enterprise, the Captain’s log — but it doesn’t have the feel of Star Trek. The explosions, crashes, and motorcycles look a lot like The Fast and The Furious, which director Justin Lin also previously directed.

The actors staring into the abyss of some off-camera doom, and the weird alien machines of destruction look a lot like a Transformers movie. And to top it all off, Rihanna is clearly auditioning to sing the introduction of the next Bond film (the trailer marks the debut of her new single, “Sledgehammer”).

Also missing in this trailer is Chekov, played by Anton Yelchin, who recently passed away.

At least we get a few glimpses of Scotty (Simon Pegg), the latest Popular Science cover star and a co-writer on this film — which does instill more confidence.

We’ll see what happens on July 22. Less than a month to go!
