Ring’s Video Doorbell can record 1080p footage and will send your smartphone a notification each time its motion sensor is triggered. You can review footage or watch a livestream from the camera using the Ring app on your smartphone, computer, and tablet. The doorbell’s speaker and microphone system lets you communicate with the people you see in real-time to let them know you’re away or ask what they’re doing.

Signing up for an optional Ring Protect Plan subscription will save video clips in the cloud, so you can rewatch them later, or send them to the authorities in case of a break-in. This is a wired video doorbell, so you’ll need existing wiring in your home to hook it up. We recommend calling an electrician if you’re afraid of handling the setup yourself. You’ll never have to worry about its battery running out of juice. If you’ve been meaning to beef up your home’s security system on a budget, don’t skip this deal.
