No, Technology Isn’t Making Everything Terrible (Or Amazing)

Is technology making everything amazing and no one happy, as Louis C.K. contends? Or is technology making everything amazing and everyone happy? Or is technology just screwing everything up?

There’s some research on this, and the answer is probably: it doesn’t matter all that much. There’s a theory called the hedonic treadmill that suggests, after the initial shock of something really great or really terrible, we rapidly adjust back to feeling okay. Everything is fine and people are fine.
