No, Technology Isn’t Making Everything Terrible (Or Amazing)

Some common sense from good ol' XKCD.

Is technology making everything amazing and no one happy, as Louis C.K. contends? Or is technology making everything amazing and everyone happy? Or is technology just screwing everything up?

There’s some research on this, and the answer is probably: it doesn’t matter all that much. There’s a theory called the hedonic treadmill that suggests, after the initial shock of something really great or really terrible, we rapidly adjust back to feeling okay. Everything is fine and people are fine.

Which segues into this typically great XKCD comic. In short, it states: When wondering if X will change/ruin/save Y, most of the time, assume things will carry on as usual. At least, usually.
