The Puzzle of Memory Pixelclash.eu/Shutterstock

Our friends at io9 have a great little overview of what we scientific types like to call the Eternal Sunshine Molecules (note: no scientific types call them that.). These are the recently-discovered molecules that may be able to erase, restore, retain, and protect our memories--at least, they might, in the coming decades.

Check out io9's feature for more on molecules like CaMKII, which leads to the inability to recall short-term memories associated with fear. (Curious about the moral side of that? Check out this ethicist's position.)

"In Star Trek V, when asked to share his pain with Sybok, Kirk replies yelling, “I don’t want my pain taken away, I need my pain!”

Our experiences, memories, good or bad, all define who we are!

which is precisely why we need better control over them

The seeker of knowledge who seeks to reach beyond the stars to go where no mans gone before to see things no man has seen and bring these experiences back for the whole world to hear and see.

This is a amazing discovery and many implications sad tho that this will not become main stream for many many years and the government will use this molecule for military purposes and so it may even become illegal for regular citizens to have as to protect the integrity of this weapon yes this is all theory but my theory is based off historical accounts it wouldn't be the first time the government has used something for good as a military weapon well this is just my opinion..

CHECK OUT THIS RESEARCH GROUP OUT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ... RESEARCH YOU COULD HELP WITH IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTER rosetta@home

I have tested some us of Black Berry Wine and found it removes persistent bad memories with little side effects, lol. ;)

If this really can restore memories, this would be the long awaited cure for Alzheimer's Disease..

That would be the greatest thing I've ever seen.

my memories are what make me. without those i am nothing.

JediMindset,
We differ in some ways, but you are gentle in how you respond and polite. I like you very much for this simple trait. I have also read you very long comments and find you very intelligent too. I always enjoy reading your comments too.

His comment on the "Gay Animals" article shows lack of logic. He is indeed polite, though.

For some reason I find this article so fasinating and new each time I read it, day to day to day to day.... ;)

@Blue
thank you. i feel the same way about you. i wouldn't call my self "very intelligent", but i can outsmart many people that call themselves very intelligent.

@jedimindset
Prepare to meet someone of your higher intelligent standards.
There are way more people that you think, or know... isn't understood or have realize of how much people can outsmart yourself or anyone you know, say if you're that smart... this will be interesting my reader, when you hear how smart I AM, or how deep my intelligent brain would say to you, Try feeling this extreme sense of consciousness; being self aware; rushing to your brain knowing too much; this is who you are: IM alive to perceive this world of science and knowledge, for one blind reason you are alive for one unknown reason; you don't have proof or answers. but what comes to the state of mind? Do size matter/ or have a meaning to size in relevance ratio? why are we alive? are we here for bigger energy? did OUR "Father/god" make us work in labor with his gift: hands and feet, self awareness and a passonate for life? are we rolling in a timeframe/destiny that interference with deja vu? believe me, i've had many powerfull "deja vu" that are unexplainable perfect acquaintanceship sence of time.

guess what. im an undergrad. and im 18. and i know too much.
I do the grammar the way i like it, im not judging anyone. just be smarter for everyones sake.

P.S.
Do you know why religion is alive in out precieved world?
the answer is: #1 childhood safty to adult matter #2 A way to see our spirits through our recognition.

@T.intelligent
lol what exactly are you trying to say? i feel like you tried to hard to use many words in a thought that required far less.

JediMindset,
I took a course in gibberish in college. I will attempt to translate for you.
What is his actual point. I have not a clue?
...............................
@JediMindset,
You should prepare yourself for someone smarter than yourself.
There are people you do not know, which are more intelligent than yourself.
You will be interested to find out exactly how smart I am.
You’re really going to be impressed as you find out, I know stuff.
For reasons you do not know, you are alive. You do not have the answers of why we all exist.
Did our father create us just to work, so we may have appreciation for life itself?
Do we travel through time, with a feeling of it repeating itself and being here before?
I have the sense of time repeating many times in my life.
Guess what, I am 18 and haven’t finish college just yet.
I am currently in college and I know stuff.
I write badly, because I prefer to write poorly. I am not judging anyone. I am just smart, here, to help everyone.
P.S. Do you know why religion exist or thought about in the world?
First answer, our parents told us about religion, when we were children.
Second answer, to better perceive GOD.
