Happy Columbus Day! As we remember the Italian explorer, let us also remember the more important Italian contribution to these United States: pizza.
_Flowing Data _crunched the numbers on pizza chains–Domino’s, Pizza Hut, and the like–then charted their relative spread across America. Above you see the most popular chains, overlayed on top of one another, and below, each chain’s spread. Pizza Hut makes the best showing, with Domino’s not far behind. There’s also some regional discrepancy: if you’re in the Midwest, Godfather’s Pizza might be your best bet to get a pie ASAP, while Cici’s is apparently more widely available in the South than other chains. And just about every place is more available on the eastern side of the nation. (Poor Nevada. Your options are slim.)
