Watch Purps The Penguin Get A Sweet New Boot
It's not just humans that get 3D-printed upgrades, anymore
Purps the Penguin had a problem that 3D printing could solve.
The 23-year-old endangered African penguin, whose full name is Yellow Purple, was found with a left ankle flexor tendon tear.
Veterinarians called on students from Mystic Middle School in Mystic, Connecticut, to help design a new boot for Purps to rock. The middle school had recently funded a new 3D printer so students could learn about end-to-end solutions. After scanning a mold of her foot, they used a 3D Systems printer to manufacture a boot that’s less bulky and provides more flexibility and grip. Watch the full video of Purps’ new accessory, here.
