Gallery: The New Tallest Building In The World

This is the ugliest building I have ever seen. It is absolutely useless in the aesthetic department, and looks to be from the cover of a 1950's single printing Sci-Fi novella.

Amiright?

I still have to say, go get em. America probably wont get into the huge building business because someone will fly a plane into it. So It is nice to see other people getting their build on.

A subtle thought that is in error may yet give rise to fruitful inquiry that can establish truths of great value.

This is quite ambitious I should say. This design seems to be the fad right now for the extremely tall skyscrapers.

@Scrumpulate - The design can be changed before this building will be built although I can see how it is ugly; the corners are too sharp and the spire is so church like. I bet the'll change this.

Looks awesome! Like something out of Blade Runner!

The very tall ones have to be built this way due to the winds they experience that high up.

If it gets built and it becomes a money-maker we can watch it being crashed into by the taliban because it represents a move towards western ideals.

What makes the look absurd, is that there are no tall buildings anywhere near it. In New York and Chicago, there are MANY tall buildings.

I really prefer articles to go along with the pictures. How tall is it? Where is it? etc.

I think it looks great! One of the things we are missing from the picture is the fact that the sun there glares down with almost 0 cloud cover. It's design will make it look like beam of light visible for far out to see.

It will almost certainly be profitable because Arabic banking practices require that 100% of the units be pre-sold before ground-breaking even begins.

The "Che" Guevara Museum called. They want the cigar butt back.

King Abdullah has a HUGE inferiority complex.

The Arabians have too much money on their hands.

Pics 2 and 10 are the coolest.

I expect that there is a lot of slave labor over in that area that needs work.

Roy_H, the information provided with the architect's drawings stated that the tower has not yet been built as construction contracts were only recently signed. It will be erected in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. When construction is complete, it will be the tallest building in the world.

I'd be interested in seeing how the structural load of the Observation Deck at floor 157 will be integrated into the frame of the building.

Ugly!

"Do not scorn a weak cub; he may become a brutal tiger."

it would be a miracle if it's built , but what it can bring us actually?

Tower of Babel?

@Scrumpulate You are wrong. This is an amazing looking tower. As a structural engineer I know the immense work that goes into designing such an extraordinary building and this one looks amazing and has features making it very difficult to design. It's a job well done if they make it happen.

Only a few hundred miles to the southwest of Saudi Arabia, is Somalia where people are starving. Saudis leave no stone unturned to demonstrate and prove how pious and good muslims they are. Prophet Muhammad said: Anyone who sleeps peacefully while his neighbor is hungry will be not of my flock". I wish before investing uncountable sums of money in such ugly and senseless edifices, Saudis should heed the prophet's word and offer a generous hand to starving nations of Africa. World at large would applaud them more, if they helped eradicate hunger!

Tall buildings are obsolete.

300 mph trains and wimax mean we can live anywhere.

The corner office of the future is a mini-farm.

I suppose I dont get the purpose of it all? Saudis sure do love to toss around their corrupt oil $$$

Look, it has its own suicide ledge

Can you imagine something this tall, but carbon-negative, built using completely environmentally-friendly materials, and completely free to enjoy?
I have a dozen such structures in my backyard. They are called mountains.
