holy crap. i want that orange audi. its beautiful, fast, and electric.
holy crap. i totally agree....what a beautiful car!
It's also a load of bs. That torque figure was measured at the wheels. The actual torque is the same or less than that of the Tesla roadster.
@mikhailian
who cares, it is the nicest looking of all those cars (after the BMW of course)
Everyone should care, it's an intellectually dishonest attempt at looking better than the upstarts that beat them to the punch on electrics. They haven't even bothered correcting this figure, or the press's misunderstanding.
If you want to know Audi's real attitude regarding electric cars you need go no further than the mouth of Audi US President Johan de Nysschen, who was quoted as saying that the Chevy Volt "is for idiots", and that electric cars are a mistake in general. And that was just a few short months ago.
That BMW Vision is like super ugly
@Mikhailian
You are obviously not a car guy/gal... For an enthusiast the hp/tq numbers made AT THE WHEEL are the "numbers that count"... what the "car" makes if you will...
Crank numbers however, are always higher (and are the advertised numbers by car manufacturers), they do not take into consideration drive train loss, one of the many things...
I have NEVER heard that torque INCREASES through a drivetrain. I've just spent the last 2 hours searching and the ONLY reference to this I've found were articles written about the Audi E-tron and how they used an "unconventional" means of measurement for their torque number... Please point me in the right direction and educate me if I am misinformed (as will MOST of the auto enthusiast community). Unless it is a totally different ball game with an electric car *shrug*
Here's an article: www(dot)autoblog(dot)com/2009/12/21/follow-up-audi-says-electric-e-tron-puts-out-501-5-lb-ft/
If you're missing it, the figure that was quoted was the raw torque taken from the wheels after going through a reduction gear, and they didn't bother to figure in the multiplication affect. Using this method would make an old base civic look like it had 600ish lbs feet.
@Mikhailian, I took a look at that link... I've even discussed it with other friends of mine and we are all scratching our heads at how the torque measurements at the WHEEL were unconventional...
however, I did stumble across some of the info about the full eletric vehicles and I can totally understand where everyone else is coming from...
Bottom line, if the E-tron was put on a dyno right now, I want to know what THAT torque number would be...
Thanks for the link!
Wow, the actual version of the Chevy Volt is an extreme let down in comparison to its concept version. I might have actualy bought one if it looked like the concept.
You Guys and Gals can have your cars , and I am a Diesel man! I wish that volkswagon would give me that last VW conv. in that same color!!!The loss of a fine vehicle, especially The Diesel version! 50 mpg.That`sa great cup of Diesel Fuel used properly! Thanks for letting me share! Good Day!!!
