TL;DR: Get Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more with a lifetime license for Microsoft Office, just $16.97 through October 4.
Most people pay for Word and Excel through Microsoft 365, and it almost seems affordable if you don’t do the math. For a monthly subscription, the lowest amount you can pay is about $120 per year. It’s only $99.99 per year if you go yearly, but that’s still almost $100 every year you’re dropping just because your work wants you to use Excel instead of Sheets. If you want a cheaper option, you can now get an older version of Microsoft Office with no monthly fee, and it’s on sale for $16.97 (reg. $229) right now.
No subscription needed
Your license includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access. Every app installs directly on your PC and runs from the desktop, so you can write documents, work in spreadsheets, and build slides without paying Microsoft again next year.
Office Professional Plus 2019 is a one-time purchase for one Windows PC, and you can use it at home or at work. Microsoft ties the license to that computer rather than to your Microsoft account, so it makes sense for a desktop you plan to keep for years. Updates are included, every language is supported, and free customer service comes with your purchase.
Before you buy, confirm your PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11, because this version doesn’t support Windows 7 or 8. Hardware needs are modest, with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of free storage, and a 1280 x 800 display recommended.
This is Office 2019, not Office 2021 or Microsoft 365, and Teams isn’t included. Microsoft is ending support for Publisher after October 2026, so plan ahead if you use it often.
Until October 4 at 11:59 p.m. PT, it’s only $16.97 to get Microsoft Office for life.
