Geminoid Summit

What’s creepier than three of the world’s most lifelike Geminoid robots sitting around a table having a conversation? If you answered three of the world’s most lifelike Geminoid robots sitting around a table having a conversation with the flesh-and-blood humans they were designed to emulate, we invite you to test your hypothesis via the video below.

Meeting at ATR in Nara last month, the three robots didn’t have too terribly much to say to one another. But seated next to their bantering real-life counterparts, this Geminoid summit compounds the strange sensation usually triggered by seeing a robot that is difficult to distinguish from a human.

I used to be disturbed by this type of stuff but now I guess I'm desensitised, because all I can do is marvel the technological feat that they are.

I wonder when the "creepy" factor will go away. I grew up with Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell. We all know Data from Star Trek. We have seen science fiction with humanoid robots for as long as we have had sci-fi movies. So many things from our imagination are coming true, flat (and 3d) TVs, tablet computers (that put most inventions on 27th century Star Trek to shame), transporting atoms, stopping light, etc etc. I dont know about you, but I always thought robots would be here one day. for years we have quickly seen this become a reality. A robot in every home will soon be here. Why is it still so creepy to see these. I have a answer to my own question. The next generation of children who are born into the "robot world." I think for me it will always be a little creepy no matter how long we have them.

OK, so they look very human like... But I don't see how they are all that much different to the latex covered contraptions that we've seen in many a movie over the years. They're dumb automatons, I don't see how they can even be called robots, they are not capable of carrying out any tasks of their own accord. Seems like they have spend most of their time making them look like humans and less time on the artificial intelligence.

I don't feel creepy watching this anymore. And in fact looking forward to the day of working and living along side extremely lifelike humanoids. It will be pretty cool going out on dates with humanoids too.

@boka

You obviously don't get out much.

The robots look like stoned versions of there humans

MAKE DATA! :P

Let's see, there are three contestants on Jeopardy, and there are three robots here . . . .

But let's not stop there. Next, on The Real World . . . .

I don't get it anymore..am I an original human, a transhuman or someone's robot?
