It's popsci related because it is about "medicine" and i'm using the term medicine loosely.

My assumption is that they asked the people they caught with them where they got them from. The officials might just be playing dumb with the press. As not to let the criminals know they are on to them. Which i really hope this is the case.

I would definitely call Popular Science a "news" site. Does this not qualify as science related news? Sure it may be incredibly evil and grotesque but you guys have got to acknowledge that there's incredible evil in the world. The science at work here may not be cutting edge by any means but this is the science that's been at play since the Dark Ages....

Most likely it is placenta, not babies. Eating placenta is a culture for health benefit since it provides nutrition for fetus. Asian believe the leftover nutrition in placenta is good for people so they save placenta after delivery the baby.

Hopefully this isn't a horrific result of China's one child policy. Either way, this is sickening.

I'm Chinese and I find this absolutely inhumane and unjust. The problem is not where these capsules originated, but rather who made these, because any person of any nationality can commit such crimes. I really hope that the people who made these capsules to spend the rest of their lives in jail or be executed. This is just horrible.

IF someone is gross enough to actually sell "pills made of dried babies"...what are the chances that they will REALLY bother making them out of actual babies?

It is not like there is a certification or lab results the buyers can refer to to insure the pills are what they say they are.

The photo is misleading and the consumption of human tissue as well as fetus has been around in china for 1000 years or more. It's not prevalent but exists. The confluence of abundant abortions, poverty, and superstition leads people to do crazy things.

How does one determine that something is made of human babies rather than adult humans? An article of this import should have more details. In what way would these pills be distinguishable from say, Yeti baby powder pills? Or extract of unicorn?
