This Is Your Marble Click here to get a bigger view of this amazing image. NASA/NOAA/GSFC/Suomi NPP/VIIRS/Norman Kuring

In the grand tradition of the awe-inspiring "blue marble" pictures, this newest shot from NASA's recently-renamed Suomi NPP satellite is the sharpest, highest resolution picture of its kind we've ever seen. It's a composite image, combining shots taken of the Earth's surface on January 4th. It's available in a crazybig 8,000 by 8,000 pixel resolution, ideal for murals or screen-printing a large area rug. Check it out in all its glory at NASA Goddard's Flickr stream. [via Gizmodo]

Absolutely stunning. The detail on the 8000 x 8000 image is great.

If only we took a picture of this from the farside... All the stars you can see with a red halo of Earth. Beautiful.

Oddly from the picture, good old USA peaks at the top of the world and another oddity to the right of the world if you look closely is a little point. Why is there a point and why is the USA the top of the world. This picture has been taken or manipulated for our egotistic pleasure.

I do not like it being manipulated for our egotistic pleasure as if it needs some kind of enhancement from us.

The true and honest Earth is just beautiful without any particular enhancements, but just natural!

God bless mother earth!

For a god, you have a very limited viewpint - uh, viewpoint.

Could it be that a NASA satellite paid for with US Taxpayer money is showing the country that paid for it? Would that be so horrible?

Bucks, Blisters or Blood - Everyone needs to pay for the freedoms we enjoy!

The Earth illustrated in this aricle is lovely!

God Bless our mother Earth and all those small children in it and forgive us our sins too!

Thank you my Dear Lord, what ever tomorrow will be!

See life in all its beautiful colors, and
from different perspectives too!

So beautiful. I'm really loving the coast of Florida's coloration. Imagine how we're just destroying this planet right this very second.
