The Waw an Namus volcanic crater, Libya:  George Steinmetz, via National Geographic
National Geographic has published a beautiful gallery of aerial photos of the Sahara, shot by George Steinmetz. Steinmetz shoots his pictures while soaring above the Earth on a gasoline-powered paraglider he built himself.

The motorized flyer packs into a compact package that can fit easily into an SUV or an airline's luggage compartment, and reassemble quickly. The ten-liter gas tank keeps Steinmetz aloft for 2 to 3 hours.

Great story and pics! We're always amazed at what people make in their garages and homes, too. Any way to see what his workshop looks like? We'd love to share the info with our community. ;)

Agreed with gladiator!!! I love the pictures.

Some people are just wow! I cannot fathom paragliding, let alone taking some amazing photo shots of the ground below. Ooh!
