How the SmartCard works

The card connects to the Apple Find My network, so millions of Apple devices around the world can help locate it well beyond Bluetooth range. For nearby searches, Bluetooth extends to 200 feet, and you can trigger a sound from the Find My app to pinpoint it in a couch cushion or a coat pocket. Lost Mode puts a message and your contact number on the screen of anyone who finds it. The Find My app sends a notification to your iPhone, CarPlay, or AirPods if you walk away without the card, catching the most common version of the problem before it becomes one.
Battery life runs up to eight months on a single charge, up from five months on the previous version. Charging works on any Qi wireless pad, so there’s no proprietary cable to lose. The IPX8 waterproof rating means the card survives up to an hour in about three feet of water, which covers most wallet-related disasters.
