When you learn about the marvels of science, you may often be reminded that nothing good lasts forever: the sun will burn out in 4 billion years, hundreds of species go extinct every day, and Pluto was downgraded to a measly dwarf planet.
However, that notion is dispelled by a new collaboration between two heritage Italian design brands. NAPKIN®, a cutting edge product design firm, and Pininfarina, which is responsible for some of the world’s most iconic automotive designs for Ferrari and Fiat, have set out to build a writing utensil that never needs replacing. Enter the Forever Pininfarina Cambiano Inkless Pen.
This handcrafted pen is a marvel of science itself: it has no ink or graphite and never needs to be sharpened, refilled, or replaced. Instead, the tip is made out of a patented metal alloy called ethergraph. In fact, a chemical reaction is what transfers your ideas to the paper.
“The process involved is based on the principle of oxidation,” explains Davide Fabi, head of special projects at NAPKIN®. “The writing tip oxidizes the paper, a trait that only casually resembles that of a pencil.”
Oxidation is essentially the same process that turns newspapers yellow over time — the porous cellulose in the paper reacts to the elements of the metal tip. This technology was once used by one of the world’s greatest thinkers, Leonardo Da Vinci, and has now been resurrected for the next generation of legendary innovators.
Beyond cutting edge technology, the pen is made of stunning Kauri wood and rests on a matching stand that is sure to make any desk elegant and neat. The tip of the pen glides smoothly over any writing surface so it will never interrupt you as you scribble your next great idea.
The wonderfully crafted Forever Pininfarina Cambiano Inkless Pen is available for just $64.99, which is a 49% discount from its original price of $129.95. Prove that your good ideas last forever.
