Eye surgeries can be incredibly invasive, and sometimes even require (gulp) sticking needles in your eyeball. Sonikure Technology aims to change that. The Hong Kong-based company has developed a device that delivers medication using ultrasound instead of needles. Unfortunately, this method is not yet available in the U.S. But the company did come to the 2015 Kairos Global Summit, where co-founder Jan Engels explained Sonikure’s device to Popular Science host Katie Linendoll. (My favorite part: “The ultrasound, in a low frequency, stimulates the cell, giving a massage to your eye cells.” Almost makes eye surgery sound relaxing!)

Popular Science tracked down ground-breaking startups at the Kairos Global Summit. Check out our complete coverage here. You can hear more from Katie on her podcast.
