Five rad and random backpacks I found this week
The end-of-week dispatch from PopSci's commerce editor. Vol. 22.
My job is to find cool stuff. Throughout the week I spend hours scouring the web for things that are useful or fun or ridiculously cheap. Often times, these choices coalesce into a guide of like items—for example, how to build the ultimate backyard movie theater, gear for your home recording studio, or these rad and random lunch boxes. But I often stumble across some pretty awesome gear that doesn’t really fit into a list. So I made a list for those.
Here are some choice backpacks to transport your school or work supplies.
The Mancro backpack is water-resistant, made out of a durable polyester nylon, and holds all laptops under 17 inches. It’s also great for commuters; the bag has a built-in USB port on its side that can be connected to a power bank. Leave the power bank inside the bag and plug your phone into side USB port for easier access. There are 12 pockets in total—three large, nine smaller, and two sealed side pockets. The bag comes with a combination lock to keep your belongings and papers safe. Plus it looks very cool. $30.
This Ghostek book bag—hear that? this is not a backpack, it is a book bag—comes with a 7000mAh power bank and a built-in waterproof AC wall adapter port. Use the external USB port on the bag’s side or the two USB ports inside one of the pouches to charge your devices on the way to class. Note: When the battery is not being used, it falls asleep. To wake it up, tap the battery indicator button on the front of the bag. With all that tech capability, the bag is necessarily water-resistant. It also fits laptops up 15.6 inches. $90.
But who said backpacks need to be serious? Remember when you had your Ninja Turtles backpack? Have you enjoyed a bag as much since? We eat up geeky stuff like this Pac-Man-themed pack. It has a padded interior to keep your laptop safe, two side pockets for storage, and is made out of a water-resistant polyester. $30.
This season of Game of Thrones is over, but keep the dream alive with a faux leather Mother of Dragons backpack. The top flap—a dragon wing—stays closed with a magnet, and the two side pockets zip up. $60.
Go to school with a new backpack everyday. Not really, but this teal mermaid backpack changes color—to black—when you move your hands over the sequins. $36.
