Musical legend and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury would have been 70 this year. And had he lived to see it, he likely would have enjoyed seeing an asteroid named in his honor.

The asteroid in question is 2.2 miles wide or so, and hovers in a belt between Mars and Jupiter, though it is not on a collision course. Nor is it a satellite, nor is it out of control.

Mercury passed away tragically in 1991 from complications due to AIDS. The presentation of the new asteroid got the video treatment, along with a quick but clear picture of the rock itself.
