The parents of the late actor Anton Yelchin, best known for his portrayal of Pavel Chekov in the recent Star Trek movies, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler after their son's sudden death.

The actor died unexpectedly on June 19 when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards and pinned him against a fence in his own driveway, according to a Reuters report.

The family is claiming negligence and product liability in this case, as the car model was recalled months before the accident. The family is also suing car manufacturer ZF North America and dealership chain Auto Nation, filling in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The New York Daily News reported that immediately following Yelchin's death, other Jeep owners filed a $5 million class action lawsuit.
