Everything We Know About Our Neighbor Proxima b
A potentially habitable world only 4.2 light years away
This summer, scientists announced that they had discovered an Earth-size exoplanet orbiting our sun’s nearest neighbor: Proxima Centauri, a red dwarf star 4.2 light years away. The exoplanet, Proxima b, is located in its star’s habitable zone, and—if it also has an atmosphere and liquid water—it may have the ability to support life. This video, a collaboration between animation studio Thought Café and Popular Science, explains what we know about our new neighbor so far.
