Not strictly about crystallography, but a fun little anecdote Helen provided that I couldn’t help but draw. When I drew the first Beard Science comic, I was nearly forced to admit that beards were actually terrible for science. But thanks to amazing crystallographers like Helen, Veronica, and Dave, I can see they’re at least mildly useful.

Going to be taking a break from this series for a bit. I have a prehistoric duo in limbo and some interesting bacteria growing in my living room.

In the meantime: Are you a crystallographer with a wacky story? Doing anything really cool with crystals? Send me an email! I’d loveto hear your stories. 2014 is the International Year of Crystallography, after all, so I plan to be running these comics for at least a few more months.
