Maggie Galloway
Editorial Intern
Maggie Galloway is a spring 2022 editorial intern at Popular Science and a student at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She hails from the Bay Area and unironically says “hella.” When she isn’t writing, she’s usually listening to podcasts, out for a stroll, or looking at photos of krill (they’re oddly beautiful).

Experience
A new addition to the team, Maggie loves how PopSci makes science and tech fun and approachable. A renaissance woman, she covers everything from geese-inspired counting software to tie-dye-like bacteria. Before coming to PopSci, she was a journalism fellow at the Center for Scientific Studies in the Arts (NU-ACCESS) and an intern at KQED News. Her favorite topics are weird animal facts, healthcare, and the intersection of art and science.
Education
Maggie is a soon-to-be graduate of the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University (Go ‘Cats!) where she majored in journalism and international studies. While there, she was the assistant managing editor and features editor of North by Northwestern.
Favorite weird science fact
Astronauts can’t do laundry in space. Water is a precious commodity, so instead, they just burn their dirty clothes. Good thing they tend to lose their sense of smell in space, because that sounds like a horrific stench.
