Bubble Building

The appropriately named Bubble Building is a plan to retrofit a Shanghai building with pillows, basically.

The proposal, from architecture firm 3GATTI, calls for spicing up the building by adding giant white nylon sheets over the windows. Not clear how that’s going to affect the view, but there’s at least one environmental bonus: the nylon could insulate the building, keeping it cool or warm with minimal help from the AC.

It’s definitely striking, and the nylon would oscillate in the wind, which would make it an even more out-there landmark to see on the horizon. (If we ever see it, that is: the proposal could end up going nowhere.) Still, the 8-year-old fort-builder in me is psyched.
