Is there a word–in English, anyway–for what this polar bear cub, seeing snow for the _first time, _must be experiencing? Does it know, somewhere inside, that this is its real landscape, not whatever came before it? Is the bear as overwhelmed by this discovery as it seems to me, or is that a projection on my part?
