PPX is closing -- a strike or consumer protest is unlikely to have a lot of impact.
Mr. Spectrum: You're right on all counts. The new forums are painful to use. They don't seem to be getting any better either.
This should have been halted at least an hour before the award show started. This exchange means nothing, if people can collect on "sure things", just by waiting until the event transpires to place their bet. A modicum of care would go a long way here.
pso7025 So cold that if you say something outside, you have to pick up your words & thaw them out on the stove; before you can be heard. That's a joke (barely) -- but, it is a lot colder than people realize. In winter, anything above - 40 seems quite mild.
innsaei Apparently what was happening with PPX is that many of us knew better than to listen to the global warming alarmists. I've had this shorted from the first day. So excuse me if I say: "HA HA!". BTW -- unlike most warm mongers here, I've been to the high arctic (all seasons) & I know what it's actually like there.
The area of Arctic sea ice increased by over 10% this year, compared to last. When are people going to realize that global warming alarmists are serial exaggerators?
The iPhone prices are based on a two-year contract with AT&T (or other carriers, in other countries). All phones cost more without a contract, than when they're "subsidized" with a contract.
Why isn't this stock locked to trading? It is now June 1 -- & it is still possible to trade this stock. What good is playing PPX, if players can place their bets after the event has occured? PPX Admins: Please get your collective act together. Set up a system, whereby stocks are automatically locked prior to the event date -- or at least, circle the dates on your calander, and lock the stocks manually.
Google's blog site on Knol says that authors may opt to allow advertising on their page. If they do -- they get a substantial share of the revenues. That will provide a powerful incentive for contributors. Knol could add content very rapidly. Another incentive is having your name attached to the article. This will attract academics, who should be able to count a Knol article as one of their required publications -- they will certainly be able to list the article in their CV. Knol also should enjoy more credibility than Wikipedia -- especially regarding controversial topics in the political or social domains. The articles will be signed. They will be "peer reviewed", and they will be page-ranked by Google (an indication of the popularity of the article with the general public). I'm not betting against Google on this one.
This is a painful site -- painful in just about every way possible. Let me mention some of the things that pain me: * The need to log off and then log on to get access; * Painfully slow everywhere; * A forum without conversations (that's what the "improvements" have wrought, in practice); * Tiny type -- to make way for all the promos and ads; * Infinite looping & other crash-inducements; * Distracting, flashing ads; * Slow, slow, slow site (did I mention that?); * Portfolio is not updated regularly; * Random portfolio updates are so infrequent as to be virtually useless; * It's no fun -- the pain-to-fun ratio is far too high (except, perhaps for self-loathing masochists); * My interest in technology & prediction exchanges drew me here before the site was "improved". Had I just discovered the site, I'd be gone after the first visit. I still have "hope" for a "change" -- but that hope is dissolving & my patience is wearing thin. * The site is a portal for a technology publication – the irony is too rich for my blood.
