He's outta here. Personal threats like these, no matter how ridiculous, will not be tolerated.
This issue should be resolved. If anyone is still seeing the error, please let us know at webmaster@popsci.com
We're checking into why some folks are getting kicked out after a certain period of time. For those that are experiencing this - after you get "Access Denied" on the PPX end, if you return to www.popsci.com, are you still logged in? Some information there would be helpful in resolving this. Again, thanks for bearing with us. We're working to get everything right.
Great - seems like most folks can log in now. We're looking into the issue some people seem to be having with the cookie expiring. FYI - you won't have to do each step of the test process when you want to log in again - no need to log out if you're already logged in now that it's working. That was just to make sure everyone got a fresh start for the test.
OK - we've made some tweaks to the login process, and it's very likely that most everyone who was having problems viewing their portfolio should be able to see it now. I would suggest the following process to test if it's working for you. 1. Navigate to both http://www.popsci.com and http://ppx.popsci.com and if you get the "Welcome" message in the top left portion of the page with your username, click "Sign Out" on one or both pages. 2. Navigate to http://www.popsci.com and log in. 3. After logging in, click the "PPX" link in the main black NAV bar (directly under your "Welcome, username" message. 4. You should see the same "Welcome" message on the PPX home page carry over with your username. 5. Click the "Portfolio" tab. We apologize again for the mixups, we know it's a pain to not be able to log in. Hopefully this will fix the problem for most. If you're still having problems, post back here or email webmaster@popsci.com with as much information as you can regarding your problem and we'll take another look. Thanks for your patience!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We'll be tweaking things a lot in the coming weeks and it's great to have user feedback. As per the login/portfolio access problems some are having - there is another thread addressing these. We have not been able to provide an ETA because we are still investigating the problem—I know everyone would love to know exactly when things will start working normally again for everyone (myself included!) but unfortunately it's the nature of the beast to have to investigate why a given problem is happening before a plan to solve it can be put together. The confusing part is that we're seeing the majority of user accounts working normally, so we're having to do a bit of searching to find why some are not behaving as they should, which is a problem we did not encounter in our extensive pre-launch testing. We are working long hours getting everything up to speed here, and there definitely isn't one single moment where everyone "clocks out" every day. Also keep in mind that PPX is only one piece of our entire site relaunch—a very important piece, of course, but there are a ton of moving parts involved in this process which all require attention. Thanks so much for everyone's patience as we work out the kinks. Once everything settled, we're confident that everyone will love the new features on popsci.com and PPX.
Also, all the old forum threads are still around—they're archived at http://ppx.popsci.com/forum-archives
Yes - we apologize for any outages in the transition but everyone here is working actively to resolve any outstanding issues. If you cannot login, see your portfolio or make trades at the moment sit tight—we'll have everything back running smoothly in no time. Thanks everyone! John
