It would be hard to describe a bullet as smart, but what if that bullet was laser-guided, radio-controlled, and carried an onboard targeting CPU? The US Army has announced the creation of the XM25 rifle, which can fire a new type of explosive round that fit that exact description. Imagine the implications: hitting targets inside buildings or hiding around walls. Whoa.
(Ha ha, a lot of spelling mistakes from user comments.) If I'm reading this correct, The scope determines where the bullet will explode by send signals to the bullet then you can adjust by 3 meters from that spot your aiming? ex: X- Rifleman #- Scope marker O- Hostile units $- Money shot? :P Because I can's draw up, does the scope have to be on a solid target to lock and transmit? If the scope saves the range and allows you to adjust while moving above your target area into the open(nothing solid to aim at) and adjust by a few meters to allow the proper shot? Where to adjust to $<- shoot for an (line of sight) effective shot? X * * * * * * * * # -\ ______________/ \ _______ ^ \ / | \___O_O_/ | ^ Ridge | Trench (This diagram was a lot more difficult to make then I have hoped... Curse you PopSci comment boxes.) Anyway... I'm not really sure how it works, I would really like to see the inside and some better diagrams explaining how it works.
When I slipped behind the wheel of the traffic simulator at Israel's Ben Gurion University recently, it was less than two minutes before I was bumping into the virtual cars and swerving around pedestrians. Maneuvering through the tree-lined urban roads projected in dayglo colors on giant screens was tricky--and I wasn't even one of their hard-drinking or toking research subjects.
I smoke regularly... I have run a red light, the day i got my new bong too. It was a heart pumping experience and scared the crap out of me! But I was not high. After getting high 15 minutes later and continuing my 45 minute drive home I was feeling a lot for observant, cautious and aware especially after speeding through a red light in the middle of downtown. I was just excited after my purchase and wanting to try it out (you know...) I just feel safer when I'm driving high, i feel a lot more positive about my driving. But about the article i bet the outcomes would be a lot different if they were on a real road and in a real driving environment. s was said by the sober driver; "Maneuvering through the tree-lined urban roads projected in dayglo colors on giant screens was tricky--and I wasn't even one of their hard-drinking or toking research subjects."
What happened to you, Holland? You used to be cool. As every popped-collar, half-witted frat boy and Bonnaroo-attending, blond dreadlock-wearing neo-hippie moron repeats ad nauseum, you were the country kindest to the kind bud. Well, apparently Dutch robots aren't quite so accepting of a little puff now and then.
What are the costs of these UAVs? I hope not to expensive for when it's destroyed and they want to make a another one. Soon growers will catch on and just shoot it down or find someway to get rid of it.
Over the weekend, health officials around the world shifted into high gear as a deadly strain of swine flu began working its way around the globe. On Saturday, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a health advisory about the flu, while the World Health Organization (WHO) held an emergency meeting, declaring that "current events constitute a public health emergency of international concern."

I was hoping for a little more... "Mysterious" pictures instead of the same pictures from the moon and mars we have all seen. I was looking at http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/ to see just what other pictures were taken and some of them are just stunning! As you huddle inside your home this winter cursing the gloomy darkness, remember that you’re not alone: The season has an even worse effect on your plants. Many common houseplants need far more hours of light than they get naturally in the middle of February, especially if they don’t have direct exposure to a sunlit window. Although the incandescent and fluorescent bulbs most people have in their homes will keep plants alive, they don’t emit light that’s within the temperature range necessary for optimal, or even adequate, foliage growth in light-hungry plants.
It looks all right until someone finds a way to use it to grow drugs.
Holy crap. These guys in Germany just cured AIDS! Of course, the procedure is so expensive, complicated, and risky that it's not replicable as a large-scale public health strategy, but we'll ignore that for a minute. Here's how they did it.
This was on the news last night but it said that the man had HIV and had rid the virus after undergoing a bone marrow transplant for his treatment for an unrelated acute myeloid leukemia. He is still under observation because the doctors think that the Virus will rise again.
