By PopSci Staff Posted on 10.13.2008 21 Comments

Once again, you ask and you answer, in the latest installment of our FYI Live feature. This week, Edward Owens has a poser: "Our universe as far as we know is finite; space is infinite as far as we know. Does anyone think there is another universe, or more out there?" What do you think? Post your answers below.

1000 years ago people KNEW that the earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago people KNEW that the earth was flat. Regardless of what technological advancements we have obtained, it seems that there are fundamental aspects of our basic understanding that are dead wrong. Perhaps the universe is a single "atom" in a larger universe? Or maybe outside of our universe is just a place where our laws of physics no longer apply and there are different forces and types of spacial dimensions. For all we know, its true. Wu

One in Four Mammals May Soon Be Extinct

By Jaya Jiwatram Posted on 10.7.2008 4 Comments

As human populations grow, pollution soils the environment and infrastructure develops, our natural habitat suffers. This may sound familiar, but scientists sent a resounding message today when they announced in a comprehensive five-year global wildlife review that these human-based causes and more are threatening one in four of the world's 5,487 known mammal species and have put 188 species in the critically endangered category.

Its sad to think of the huge impact humans have on the world's ecosystem, and how its almost all negative. Yes, there are individuals that try to make a diference, but its still getting worse. I can't stand thinking of how much damage industrialized nations do to the world's ecosystem, and then how most of the world hasn't began to industrialize yet.... imagine what the ecosystem is in for in the future. By Mike Spinelli Posted on 9.24.2008 13 Comments

Not to be outdone by GM's Chevy Volt hoopla last week, Chrysler today revealed three prototypes from its own electric-car program earlier today on CNBC. Who knew Chrysler had an electric-car program? Practically no one. But the company calls it ENVI, pronounced "envy," and the first consumer product from the program could appear as early as 2010.

General Motors must be crapping their pants. Here are 3 cars, 2 of which have the same stats as the volt but with larger passenger capacity, and a sporty little tricked out europa. Wu
