    The Hyper-Sub

By Posted on 7.16.2008 7 Comments

Nautical engineers have long dreamed of a craft that could race across wave tops like a speedboat and seconds later dive beneath them like a submarine. But crossing the two breeds presents a catch-22: Subs need heft to sink, but speedboats need to be lightweight to go fast. With an investment of nearly $2 million and years of research, former auto-shop owner Reynolds Marion of Lake City, Florida, has finally hit on a solution, a machine he’s dubbed the Hyper-Submersible Powerboat. When complete, it will reach speeds of up to 45 mph and dive down to 1,200 feet.

LoL! ^_^ I'd still want one just to try it out! Too bad it can't fly too. =( Oh well, since it reaches 45 mph ill just build a ramp and make it fly! xD

Prehistoric Explosions Wiped Out Ocean Life-- And Created Petroleum

By Posted on 7.26.2008 38 Comments

A new study by the University of Alberta suggests that a massive undersea volcano eruption 93 million years ago was the source of much of the world’s oil. Researchers Steven Turgeon and Robert Creaser were alerted to the prehistoric blast when they found specific levels of osmium isotopes (indicators of volcanic activity in sea water) in black shale rocks off the coast of South America and in the mountains of central Italy.

Shoot I'd like to know the likelihood of this happening in the near future too!!! o_o cuz that would kinda sux if it happened while I'm at the beach, i'll make sure when it does happen i catch a flight on an airplane that can reach the highest altitude just for safe measures. ^_^

    Rebuilding the Troops

Skin guns. Organ printers. Pig dust. Biochemist Alan Russell believes tools like these could one day be standard-issue for the battlefield medic. The skin gun would heal burns. The organ printer would replace badly wounded livers, kidneys, even hearts. And the pig dust?

While all of ur comments r interesting... should i point out that the medical field is more concerned about saving lives at the moment. There second priority is about making lives better! ^_^ Although it must really suck having missing limbs u have to think about other people w/ disabilities and diseases who wish there were cures to something they have but simply don't. And they have to live the rest of there life knowing there is no cure. Science just hasn't caught up yet! o_o

    Martian Soil Is Alkaline

By Posted on 6.30.2008 9 Comments

Now that the glitches caused by the Martian soil's clumpy consistency have been shaken out, the Phoenix Lander has been able to cook up a few samples to test the soil composition. The preliminary results are surprising even to the chemists at work on the project: the soil is alkaline, and much more so than anyone expected. The analysis has found trace amounts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, and other elements similar to those in the soil on Earth. On first pass, Martian dirt appears to be non-toxic and laden with the basic nutrients necessary to support life.

Paintball has become the perfect way for gadget geeks to unleash their inner Rambo. The latest carbon-dioxide- or compressed-air-powered guns, known as “markers,” have computerized controls and electronic firing mechanisms that can blast out 1,200 balls a minute at speeds of up to 300 feet per second. Add in a quick reloader and a sneaky scope, and your buddies won’t stand a chance.
