Taking beer-making to a whole new sphere, Japan's famous Sapporo Holdings Ltd. plans to launch a beer in November that's literally from out of this world. The brewery will collaborate with scientists at the Okayama University in Japan to concoct this unearthly beverage from a third generation of barley grains that spent five months on the International Space Station in 2006.
Taio - I think you may have misunderstood this article. Our tax dollars are not being used for the purpose of creating space beer from the ISS. Our tax dollars are going toward growing barley and other organisms in space with the intent of studying how they adapt genetically and developmentally to the conditions. The barley being used for the space beer is simply the leftovers from the research experiments being conducted on the ISS. However, I cannot disagree with your point that in general, mankind needs to take a long hard look at what exactly is important. Perhaps, though, this article isn't the best example of misguided priorities. Erika
