A console version of Civilization? For many PC gamers, that's as heretical as a Citizen Kane TV series–you just don't mess with the classics of popular culture. In this case, though, the man helming the project is the same guy who started it all, legendary designer Sid Meier. After struggling with the challenge for two years, Sid's found a way to streamline his turn-based strategy game without lobotomizing it.
Civ IV remains unchallenged. I LIKE micro-managing during the "slow" exploratory and development phase (and you can let the computer manage things for you if you don't). Unfortunately, Revolution seems to target the generation of gamers with short attention spans who need constant and chaotic visual feedback to remain engaged. If this is the future of "god games" then this move is a good idea for Take Two's business, but sad news for the gaming world.
The tripod is a fine and stable construct for photography and navigation, but how well will it work for motorcycles? We're not sure, but one student at California's Art Center Pasadena is challenging singletrack motorcycles and typical three-wheelers with an anthropomorphic, Yamaha-branded three wheeler concept called the Deus Ex Machina. The forward-looking personal conveyance is a mobile exoskeleton propelled by in-wheel electric motors—or, more succinctly, a trike you can wear.
This is very cool, but I don't see the usefulness of this in it's current configuration. It's too wide to navigate sidewalks, too aerodynamically inefficient (and potentially dangerous depending on ease of embarking/disembarking) for the highway.
