    Guinness Got Game

By Posted on 5.5.2008 8 Comments

Used to be, when I answered my phone at work, I didn't know what to expect. A college frat boy wanting to build the world's largest beer bong. Ashrita Furman, a guy from Brooklyn planning to break the marathon unicycle-riding record for the greater glory of his spiritual leader, Sri Chinmoy. A woman who had toilet-trained her chameleon. I was the associate American editor for the Guinness Book of World Records, and point man in the U.S. for would-be record-breakers.

Those Atari wireless joysticks rock! I had no idea those existed. I'm starting to question "Guinness Records" and that's a shame since I grew up with their books.

Did they choose such a specific title just to give Nintendo another "record"? I have some new-in-box (old stock) first party wireless controllers for my Sega Genesis from 1993/94.... IrDA though. Don't get me wrong, I love the big N but it was competition and innovation from Sega that helped Nintendo to drive the console gaming industry after the collapse of Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision etc.
