Can a Swimsuit Be Too Good?

By Posted on 3.27.2008 21 Comments

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/Can_a_Swimsuit_Be_Too_Good'; Even we didnt guess it would be this good. When I wrote last month about Speedos latest swimsuit—an extremely high-tech full-body wonder—three world records had already been broken by LZR-clad swimmers. Coincidence? Maybe. But, after eight more records fell in the past month, the suit is causing some serious waves.

Yes, now we know that there is this unfair advantage in the swimming industry, but I think all of us are wondering how does it work? What gives it this advantage? Don't we all come here to learn about cutting-edge gadgets, gaming, or science? Where's the information?!?!

Bikers in Europe Get Some TLC

By Posted on 4.25.2008 3 Comments

Portland is arguably the furthest along of any American city as far as far as bicycle-friendly infrastructure goes (Seattle and Davis are close seconds). But none of them even approaches the level of cultural saturation prevalent in the Netherlands; the grand Mecca of cycle commuting. That is not to imply the American cities' efforts are futile, I mention the disparity only to convey the weight behind a statement this week from the Dutch Cycling Federation calling on the government to mandate the installation of air bags on cars. On the outside.

The system in the Netherlands sounds really interesting. I heard that in certain cities in Europe they have a bike share program where people can swipe a pre-paid card at a bike rack and take a bike. When they're done with it they can put it back into any other rack throughout the city. The bikes have tracking devices on them so they cannot be stolen. It would be great if we could get something like that here.

Today marks the 18th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, and to celebrate, NASA has released a collection of 59 new Hubble images (under the fantastic title "Galxies Gone Wild!") that present galaxies in all of their volatile wonder.

These pictures are really amazing when you realize that these small pictures, only centimetres across are full of billions of planets, some with things on them that we might not know exist

    Cellphone a la Carte

By Posted on 4.10.2008 3 Comments

Carry a different phone for every situation, whether youre traveling light or blasting tunes in your car. On its own, Modu is one of the smallest, lightest cellphones yet. But when you want to do more than basic calling, pop it into a new outer shell to give it features like a full keyboard, a wider display or a longer-lasting battery.

This modu phone looks like the coolest gadget I've seen in a while. If you go to modumobile.com you can see all the cool jackets they have for it. My only question is: How much does it cost, and how do I get it?
