    Seeds to Save a Species

By Posted on 1.22.2008 2 Comments

To visit the Shola market, a teeming maze of stalls in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, you'd never know that the human race's food supply was in jeopardy. Massive sacks stuffed with dried chili peppers overflow onto piles of vegetables-potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, tomatoes. Enticing smells waft from the spice sellers' stalls, crowded with colorful mounds of cumin, turmeric and ginger.

do a google search for heirloom seeds as there are a lot of stores that now sell them, and buy some that are from your local area(you may need to either email or call to find out) is my suggestion. Of course you can do your own research and find some varieties you want to help and then find a site that will supply them. I'd also like to note that the same goes for animals, if everyone has Hereford cows(works the same with chickens, pigs, sheep etc) and a new strain of a virus kills them all, it pays to have variety in everything, so if your on a hobby farm, or have a bit of space do your bit! :D I plan to when I have the space! :D

    Wave Runner

By Posted on 2.22.2008 20 Comments

This month, 69-year-old Japanese sailor Ken-ichi Horie will attempt to captain the worlds most advanced wave-powered boat 4,350 miles from Hawaii to Japan. If all goes as planned, hell set the first Guinness world record for the longest distance traveled by a wave-powered boat and, along the way, show off the greenest nautical propulsion system since the sail.

I think everyone who has posted has missed the point, if you have ever sailed anywhere before you will know that the wind does not always blow, so you can be stuck in the middle of the ocean with no wind, whereas waves are always there, so in combination with sails, you can effectively have a boat that is all green and un hindered by no wind. Good job I say, it doesn't look like technology to be used with tankers, but then who thought sails could be used with them(due to stability reasons) and now a dutch tanker company is using a kite, so never say never! :D
