Get Reel: Mow Your Lawn for Free

By Posted on 7.15.2008 7 Comments

Have higher gas prices turned your lawn into a jungle? Allay those fuel fears by switching to a push reel mower. Harkening back to those halcyon days of 1950, the reel mower relies on a rotating cylinder of 5 to 7 blades for silently snipping your grass into manicured perfection. All of this beauty is not achieved without some sweat, though. Your sweat.

I use a 20 year old one and it works just fine. I started using it when I was 7 years old, of course then it was just cheap to use but now it is cheap and green.

Border Security to Become Copyright Police?

By Posted on 5.30.2008 19 Comments

As if the security in airports and controls at border crossings weren't slow and intrusive enough, governments around the world are quietly passing laws to allow them to search the contents of your laptop and other electronic devices, like iPods and cellphones. A United States court last month gave border agents carte blanche to hold a laptop for days and even copy its entire contents. The UK government has given its agents authority to search computers at its borders for pornography. But in what may be the most baffling and cumbersome move of all, the US, Canada, UK, and other EU nations are working behind closed doors on a new trade agreement which could turn border agents into the copyright police.

So lets say I copy a Game CD (I bought) onto my $2000 laptop because I did not want to bring the disc with me on vacation, and cross into Canada. The nice boarder people look on my computer decide I illegally downloaded that disc and what? I no longer own a laptop? What happened to due process? And don't go telling me an illegally downloaded CD is a threat to National security.

One in Eight U.S. Biology Teachers Teaches Creationism

By Posted on 2.12.2009 109 Comments

The results of the first national survey of teachers about evolution in their classrooms are in. Darwin would quiver in his boots to learn that in this day and age, one in eight American biology teachers teach creationism and intelligent design as a sound alternative to his theory. In fact, 13 percent of the country’s teachers think they can run an excellent biology class without even mentioning Darwin or evolution.

"another problem that i have with creationist theory is that while creationists attempt to claim that the "creator" may not necessarily be "god" but may in fact be some form of higher life form that we are unable to ascertain, well taht's all well and good but where did that "higher form of life come from. wouldn't the so called creator have had to oh shall we say evolve from some lower form of life before coming to wield his supposedly allmighty power?" Trying to discredit a theory with your own competing unproven theory is not the most valid method for doing so... Oh and I do believe in evolution just so you know.
