Retreating glaciers. Melting permafrost. Off-kilter bird migrations. Few of these reports are news to anyone following the global warming beat. Yet the first effort to gather thousands of scientific findings into a cohesive narrative of cause and effect has been published in the journal Nature.
I have to say... People's statements that "the debate is over", are ridiculous. No scientists agree on this. 1000's of scientists say that it is true, just as many say it is not. How often do you hear about how NASA has shown that all of the planets in the solar system have shown a significant increase in temp at the same time as our own planet. Global Warming is a corporate fad, the only ones who push the issue are those looking to profit from its "plausibility". Frankly, I dont think Global Warming is man made, we are basing our "high temp" records off of only 150 yrs of near accurate temp recording. Scientists agree that at the time of the dinosaurs, earth had an avg temp of approx 107 degrees F, or higher. We have to save our planet, its the only one we have and we cant recycle it. We have to conserve our resources, stop strip mining, stop mass deforestation for Mcdonalds and biofuels. We have to stop littering and pollution, especially considering there are 2 garbage islands in the middle of the pacific nearing the size of USA alone. I'm all for a green movement, just not under the guise of "man- made Global Warming" and not for the profiteering of global corporations and their lobby monkey's like Al Gore. No Carbon taxes. more green energy sources, more hawke reactors to rid ourselves of landfills... Think Green does not mean think about the planet, at least not to the corporations that are pushing the products and byproducts of global warming. Think Green to them means $$$, and lots of it. Al Gore's house emits more CO2 in 1 yr than mine will in 10 yrs. Which side of the "Green Line" are these guys on, Money or Earth?
its unlikely that any boycott will result in any effect on China's nat'l policies or its incredible arrogance towards the health of its own nation, and the nations it exports to. The country is severely oppressive of its citizens and arrogant due to its importance to the American economy and imports. They know that if we piss them off, they will stop loaning us money, and the whole shell/structure of debt our country has built up, will collapse, turning america into a 3rd world country... it is becoming an inevitability, w/ each and every american citizen $16k in debt from our $32Trillion deficit... but they are at least allowing us to flounder a little longer, and put ourselves more into debt... but hey, the only Pres candidate who can actually address this doesn't get a stint of media coverage anyways... Good luck to us America... when the $ collapses in 4 yrs, we'll all be living in serftitude... then what?... I say boycott the Olympics anyways...
With a death toll steadily rising, the effects of Myanmar's devastating cyclone have yet to be quantified, but days after the storm one thing is clear: they will be long-lasting and far-reaching. "Our biggest fear is that the aftermath could be more lethal than the storm itself," said Caryl Stern, head of the U.N. Children's Fund. Four days on, electricity and water supplies are still cut throughout the country. With broken sewage lines, mounting trash, impassable roads preventing access to clean water and food, and damaged hospitals, the nation faces a likely-devastating public health crisis. The World Health Organization has pinpointed malaria and tuberculosis—two diseases that thrive amidst overcrowding and bad water—as especial threats. Meanwhile, the spread of communicable diseases is speeded by blocked roads, which trap sick people in and keep health workers out.
I find it a tragedy that these natural disasters are worsened by mankind's raping of planet earth... we only have one... Though "man made" global warming has been disputed even by the man who first suggested it, and thousands of scientists world wide have attributed it to the sun's warming as entire solar system has been heated up... we still have people focusing too much on flex fuel from corn and carbon taxes that we're letting these more important problems like polluting our oceans and clear cutting of rainforests for corn crops, that ineffectively offer less fuel than say, growing marijuana plants for fuel, which provide the same amount of fuel w/ 1/10th the space necessary... not to mention how this has caused a dramatic increase in food costs world wide... the storm wasn't preventable, but the damage was... how unnecessary... ugh...
From a birds-eye view, the domes of the California Academy of Sciences, set to open in the fall, bulge out of the ground like giant scoops of green ice cream. These undulating hills built into the museums 2.5-acre, flora-covered roof integrate the building into the green space of surrounding Golden Gate Park. They also conserve energy, since the roof insulates and ventilates the 400,000-square-foot museum below.
I love how more and more research is showing us how we can use nature to our benefit, w/o having to destroy it the way we have for the past few centuries. Large cities are trying to incorporate green roof tops for the sky scrapers and smaller office buildings. Even homeowners are using these to their benefits. If only we could get more people to use geo-thermal energy to heat their homes, ppl would save millions on heating costs, as well as benefit the environment, and decrease dependency on foreign oil, etc. Unfortunately, these technologies are suppressed by large corporations who will not be able to generate profit from the eco - friendly choices.
