Chinese hackers have compromised designs for more than two dozen U.S. military weapons and technology programs, according to the confidential section of a Pentagon report on cyber security obtained by the Washington Post. These programs include the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Littoral Combat Ship, and a really awesome laser, among others. Combined, these represent decades of research and billions of dollars in development costs.
The list of compromised system designs and technologies comes from the nonpublic version of a Pentagon military and cyber security report. The Department of Defense released the public version of the report in January.
More stolen tech on the list: the vertical takeoff and landing V-22 Osprey, which spent decades in development. Drones (including the Global Hawk), armor, missiles, and torpedoes were also among the compromised systems. Some list items are sweeping categories—"electronic warfare" refers to multiple technologies and an entire doctrine of shutting down electronic communication and functionality in war.
Because the list of compromised systems is so long, and because "compromised" is a maddeningly imprecise term for looking at what exactly the hackers were able to glean from the system, security implications from the espionage are vague. But three things are certain: Any data on a weapon helps a researcher figure out how to counter it. It is far easier and cheaper to develop new technologies when piggy-backing on decades of expensive work. And a breach of this breadth and depth is profoundly troubling for American cybersecurity assets.
And how do we know the Chinese did this? Because we probably saw our classified files on their hard drives and said "What the hey!"
No they set off an alarm when they input the password, because they weren't using the computers used by the scientists who created those designs. Plus China is Communist and they don't have too much tech on their hands that we have, if people can't be satisfied with what they have and stop this, we will have WW III Soon enough! But it's not all their fault, if only meddlers ( I'm not mentioning any names ) could stop and quit trying to start WW3!!!
And Remember Everyone!
Have fun, Have Nukes!
P.S. I'm not new!
I've been away for awhile!
I don't blame China one bit. It is appalling to hear time & time again about a breach in cyber security. How weak is our security if the same country is able to infiltrate time after time? Just a while back, Iran was able to simply snare an RQ 170 from the sky. I personally can think of many ways to make it snare proof. This goes to show that all this sophistication is for nothing. In the advent of a major war, all the enemy has to do is laser our GPS satellite systems & drop an EMP above us & our military is useless.
Why is the US allowing this info to be accessible on the web? Don't they have a closed system where the internet cannot have access? I mean duh, it's so obvious that to keep your data secure you keep it on a closed system with safeguards to avoid leaks.
Imagine you invest club to beat you enemies. Then you enemy takes your club and beats to death with it.
We did all the R&D for F-35, but can't afford right now with our economy, but hey China will steal the R&D and with their economy produce the F-35 and perhaps later use it against us.
Why oh, why is the internet open to China!
Dumb as# politicians, you know the upper military has told them all about this problem for years!
Maybe the US should invest more in the cyber sercurity, and less on weapons development.
They should knock a few trillion off our debt.
Wow! This is a far bigger deal than it's being made out to be.
Plans for our bleeding edge stealth fighter jets could be circulating the globe this very second. This isn't even about China. It's about that info falling into the wrong hands.
The playing field was just severely leveled. This is potentially a game over scenario.
I'm kind of scared now. Not enough to relinquish any freedoms (Which the government probably orchestrated this leak in order to get), but enough to not feel comfortable anymore.
This is really bad...
1. stop buying chinese crap. period.
2. demand your goverment to prioritize developing tecnologies 100% secure from cyber teft. im'sure you can.
3. stop your crazy civilian every-day arming nonsense.
side note. what if your goverment or pentagon, sold this RnD, for debt cuts?
back to point 1.
stop. buying. chinese. fucking. crap.
I guess I missed the part where it says this hacking was done via the Internet.
oh boy.....do none of you know anything about cyber security...."100% secure" this does not happen in cyber security there are always vulnerabilities, google "zero day hacks". You cannot completely stop these types of attacks, you can midigate their liklihood and mitigate the damage when they occur but you can not stop them. But i do agree mroe time and money should be spent in this part of our defense. I would bet really good money that an eventual "Cyber Force" will break away from the other forces, like the air force did post WW2, it sounds very sci-fi but cyber is starting to become its own area of opertion air force=air ware fare, army=ground warfare, navy=naval warfare, marine corps=naval/ground warfare, so it would make a logical conclusion that this would become its own area
If you think Rita`s story is unbelievable,, 4 weaks-ago my boy frends brother also earnt $9563 putting in ninteen hours a week from there house and they're best friend's mother`s neighbour has been doing this for 6 months and brought in more than $9563 part time at their labtop. apply the instructions available at this link........ Fox85.com
of course you know about the Zero day attacks noew for this set of software but in 5 yrs when they need to switch to new software because its obsolete and the company won't support that afotware anymore, do we know about the zero day vulnerabilities for that software?.....While you statements about to much access to calssifies data might be right, the rest of that paragraph is just wrong, you don't think people understand that phones can be used as carriers for attacks?
Just throw a super computer at it right....what is this the matrix or something?
The rare earth metals market is expanding more time and money is being spent to find them, a mine in the US is restarting production, mines in the south asia are starting, Australia is starting back up....
It's sad but this article doesn't really surprise me. The Chinese have been stealing technology for the US for years. I think we need to start finding ways to hold them accountable at a state level for this kind of theft. The theft of our military technology by a country like China erodes our national defense.
And yet robot was blocked? He would of vented all over this article with supporting links for his comments.
Secure are only the things ahead of the time. In other words: deploy quantum computing closed network for all confidential data.
Heads need to be rolling and our “Representatives” need to be held accountable for not doing their job! How about we start with the upper echelon, POTUS and his Cabinet. Then we'll work our way down to our "representatives" in Capital Hill! Does anyone not see this as a major breach to our sovereignty! If someone reached down your pocket and stole all of your hard earned money, what would you do? The Chinese just reached down America's pocket and stole at least 30 years’ worth of American R & D and we’re going to continue to talk “Politics,” are you kidding me! Don't give me this, "they've been doing it for years". What have our "representatives" been doing all those years, not representing US! We have a bigger problem than the Chinese Hacking our IT systems, our Gov’t has hacked our freedom, voice, and power. My answer, fire our Rep’s who failed to guard our systems and failed to respond. In their place, bring in MEN with spines that will let the Chinese taste the weapons that they just stole, so they think of the consequences before they lift another finger on their keyboard and mouse!
It is our fear that creates and necessitates the existence of our government. With all these leaks, I wonder if a door or window is left half crack to leak information and allow our enemies to grow strong. Then as our enemy gains strength, so does our everyday fear and of course our government sizes grows to protect our fears!
With the opening of the internet, there was never a need to allow all the excess of information as it has become. Intentionally being clumsy security was put in the formula....
Imagine if the internet was created and it only existed in the USA and no other place. Our technology would have soared a head of the entire world. Funny how all the doors and windows were left open, when it comes to security and we are all now busy trying to close them all as fast as possible.
With the invention of the operating systems, they could have built in right away safe guards. I do not believe all these security holes are an accident...
By the way, encrypted communication has been around prior to the internet and good managment security protocals too.
We're supposed to just accept whatever we told as the truth? Its like all of the terrorist plots that have been discovered and foiled. I have a cat that keeps aliens from attacking the earth. The proof is the fact that we haven't been attacked! If we ever are, its because my cat in underfunded.
Good point AnnonUSA. I have access to thousands of blueprints and process specs for military specs. I have no security clearance whatsoever. None of the companies that manufacture military equipment or technology do it alone. Not even the most sensitive parts. Everything is subject to contractors. The contractors have internet access to all the pertinent information that they need to produce all the things the defense contractors farm out. They almost ALWAYS have hard copies too. A copy machine and an unsupervised lunch period could HACK the shit out of file cabinets.
like Joan implied I am dazzled that anybody can profit $7249 in four weeks on the computer. have you read this web link Go to site and open Home for details
maybe we purposely gave them this hoping they'd try to use it against us... I mean what ever the public knows we have something way better... so if china tried using this old stuff we'd reck them...
