Uncrating Robonaut NASA/Kim Shiflett

He has been crated up and shipped to Kennedy Space Center. At the Space Station Processing Facility there, he is going to be carefully packed into his SLEEPR -- the Structural Launch Enclosure to Effectively Protect Robonaut.

At over 500 pounds, the packed-up Robonaut will be perhaps the heaviest cargo ever carried in a space cargo module, according to NASA.

After all the talk about this android, we'll finally get to see it in action! But priority #1 - fix the ISS

Seems to me that its arrival is just in time, those cooling systems on board are still broken down.

Awe man, i wanted to be the first robot in space... :(

Paul: how do you know the robot is a "he"? Do you know about a part that we don't?

I have a question... Why do they need to cool the ISS??? Doesn't it live in space where its cold...

@Xenthis

Cold in the shade, boiling in the sun (which for the solar panels is where the station hangs out) imagine going outside on a bright day and how you can feel the light on your skin, now imagine that light hadn't been scattered by the atmosphere. Sounds pretty hot doesn't it.

Don't take my word for it though, here's some reading on the subject www.motherboard.tv/2010/8/4/space-is-freezing-why-does-the-space-station-need-an-air-conditioner--2 -250 degrees to 250 degree F.

Ah, read a little more of my own link, insulation keeps the sun heat out, the computers and gizmos are what demand the air conditioning.

NASA and their robot bondage torture...

Hey they are finally going to send the new HAL 9000 prototype up to play with the astronaut! I do hope they have it on webcam!

Ahh... forgot about the sun... :D
