I think Apple sells fantastic objects that look like they came from the future. And apparently, in that future we all live in velvet rooms and have no fingers-there´s no other way to explain the ultra-shiny mirrored backside of my new iPod nano, which got scratched and grungy with fingerprints in exactly three seconds. So I gave it a nifty scuff shield and, while I was at it, my own logo, using a superthin layer of electroplated copper.

New iPod Nano Already Cloned?

Information on this is still sketchy, but Engadget has published a photo of a purported iPod nano clone (at left). For perspective, remember that Apple just announced the new fatty nano on September 5th. As PopSci reported in its September cover story, "Meet the iClone", Chinese manufacturers have became virtuosos of near-instantaneous imitation. But if this report proves true, the Nano clone appeared insanely fast even by their frenetic standards. —Sean Captain

Dissecting the iPhone


Though some of the lucky 525,000 to procure an iPhone have been concerned with getting the device activated, a brave few decided to crack it open instead. Several sites pulled the phone apart, but the gadget surgeons at ifixit.com offer a detailed photo diary of their dissection. Among the observations: The phone has 16 screws compared to the iPod Nano's 3. Which means it's approximately 5.3 times as cool.—Gregory Mone
