This has been up for two weeks now, no comments. I guess maybe people are kinda ambivalent when they don't see the advantages of a design over the one currently in use. So we have to make a new one for Mars, right? Due to temp. What about the grit size? Will we be utilizing any kind of a power exoskeleton with any of the suit types anticipated for our next generation?
I'm sorry, but I simply don't understand how when we've FINALLY gotten around to designing a new space suit for our brave astronauts, that we fail to see the benefit of putting some sort of rebreather into the suit, to help elongate the amount of oxygen and thus time they have while performing EVA's. The technology is there! Scuba divers use it all the time. Not to mention that many advances have been made in understanding and replicating the process of photosynthesis. How is this not one of the highest priorities on the designers checklists?
To cut down the weight(mass) don't take two suits. The first suit should work fine as an all-round suit. For lunar/martian exploration image 1 armor can be used in a way similar to a knight's cuirass.
Backplate w/backpack covers astronaut from neck to waist.
Chestplate covers from neck to waist.
Lower torso (optional) armor would be a separate piece and basically look like a diaper. It would have attachment points on the suit to hold it in place.
The gap between the upper and lower armor would allow the astronaut to twist and bend to greater extent than image 1 would. The astronaut would have the option to use the chestplate or 'diaper' or not.
A surcoat made of light-weight material for thermal and micro-meteoroid protection. Roll up and place inside the armor for storage.
As for having some kind of rebreather in the suit, wouldn't the suit already work on this principle?
Scuba divers tend to let all the air out in bubbles when they breath out. The rebreather just mixes the air breathed out with new oxigen rather than expelling it as bubbles. I don't think the spacesuits simple expell the air that is breathed out into space. So I guess they already have 'rebreathers' in them.
Maybe they could use photosynthesis, but I guess this would be a balance between how useful it would actually be and the opportunity costs. It might just be easier to carry the oxygen. Ir perhaps they could use it to some extend on the actual space vehicle.

Joten meidän on tehtävä uusi Mars, eikö? Koska lämpötila. Entä grit kokoa? Onko meillä käyttämällä minkäänlaista valtaa tukiranka millään puku tyypit varauduttava seuraavan sukupolven?
