Remember those cows who seemed to align themselves with the magnetic poles while grazing? Turns out the earth might not be the only thing prompting the cows' positioning. The same researchers who studied Google map images to draw their earlier conclusion have found that power lines, too, seem to cause the bovines to stand facing particular directions.

are y'all sure the cows aren't just turning broadside to the sun?ya-know when they do they'll be facing either north or south.
For a little local verification, my wife and I checked various herds as we drove around over a period of several weeks. Orientation was amazingly random!
I also posted a note about this claimed alignment on my favorite forum. Members from farming backgrounds found it hilarious.
However, if you are lost and you come across a herd of cows in a nice green pasture, you're probably near civilization :)
