Nice pretty picture of the Gulf Stream, but without any info on what we're looking at, it's useless. What area of the Atlantic are we looking at? What are the black areas -- landmasses? What are the black speckled areas? When was it taken -- winter or summer (there's a big difference in Gulf Stream configurations from one season to the next)? A photo like this without a caption is wasted, since it's designed to communicate data via color-coding. I'm sure NASA provided plenty of info on exactly what this image shows, but PopSci seems to be more interested in presenting gee-whiz eye candy than science.
