Lamar Smith

Lamar Smith was not very popular with the Internet a while back. The GOP congressman from Texas sponsored the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which, you may recall, was not well-loved by much of the Internet. He also doesn't believe global warming is man-made. But now Smith is being recommended by his party to chair the Science, Space, and Technology committee, and he'll probably end up with the job. This may be slightly controversial. [The Verge]

Just another lying politician..... NEXT!
Checking his educational back ground, yup another lawyer.

I am so sick of lawyers in politics. I like an individual with an agenda other than his own career, without an education in arguing and yes lying!

Now he is being recommended by his party to chair the Science, Space, and Technology committee, as if he has a clue!

Here is a good read:

Stop Online Privacy Act? Thats worse than i thought it was when i first heard it i thought it was Stop Online Piracy Act

Lamar Smith is nothing more than a crook who serves the best interest of the various complexes in the government.

This guy is a Christina Scientist, a religion that believes that sickness can be cured through prayer alone, and preventative medicine such as vaccines are to be avoided, leading towards outbreaks. Sounds like the perfect candidate for the job.

This is the second article so far that features an idiot politician who ruined his public image, and the politician's ugly photo. Seriously, do we really need to know what the guy looks like!? And PopSci, while it's understandable that they want to strike back at "deniers" (climate change scientists have always been harassed by deniers), I'm pretty sure this is going a bit too far.

No science background? Don't worry Lamar, you can always be a PopSci contributor.

A scumbag bible thumping lawyer who represents one of the most gerrymandered districts in Texas. This man is not only an insult to scientific minds but also to common sense.

This is just another politician and with his lack of sceintific, engineering background, and most likely brain power he would do only what his corporate masters tell him. His nomination to the GOP'S sceince, space, and technology commitee or should I say technological suppresion commitee corporate backing commitee. Technology has been supressed from the publc for decades that could destroy the oil corporations. Hydrogen feuls go way back to when the internal combustion engine was in development and today all of 99.9% of the world's newest cars, trucks, industrial freight train, and etc run on oil still to this day. This guy will fit right into the political seen as a corporate agent and it is a shock to see that the GOP actually chose him. This goes right in with Rick Santurum's comments that satan found his way into America through the minds and hearts of our sceintist, and questioned why some many sceintist believe in Global warming. And finally only in the USA is there even a debate about whether if not Global warming is even real and truth is many sceintist are afraid in this country to even talk about. I was once a major republican slash heavy anti democrat myself and do find fault with many of Obama's policies, but as a Engineer I am concerned about the GOP's increasingly foundamental anti sceince and it looks like increasingly anti initicaul stance. The wages of engineers and sceintist have declined sighnificantly over the last decade and unemployment has rose. Also when Bush was in office there where major cut backs to the basic research and devolpement budget. The sceintific and egineering papers where litteraly dominated by foreighn asian and european research with virtualy nothing from the United States that was not defense related. This is just one of the other things I have fault with the current repblican party such as the bush tax cuts that placed lower interest rate on foreighn capital gains than domestic and support of newer deregulation in all aspects of aspects of business. This recesssion was caused by a bad combination of human carelessness, BILL Clinton, Foreighn gains cuts (foreghn capital gains cuts lead to massive commerical outsourceng of high wage manufacturing jobs, research and development, accounting, and information technology). First Bill Clinton (a democrat) had repealed the class stegall act that prevented comerical and investment banking as acting the same entity. Investment banking could already invest overseas and now commerical had that right to invest overseas also plaid a role in the dot-com buble burst as business hed there det in their own subides accounts (both domestic and foreighn) like Enron and over investing in technology companies rather or not if they turned out profits. Six years later we have the housing market caused by to many people buying home loans from the banks in which they could'nt afford it, it was then sold by the banks to be insured by Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac to federaly ensure (because they where the only ones who could ensure the toxic morgage) and bundle the loans up with other loans in morgage backed securites and resold them on the second hand market. Then they where purchased by other banks and chopped up and resold into other finicial securiteis by hedge funds, private equities, accounts, loans, stock, and virtualy every thing else. All up until 2007 when it was realised that that to many loans had been loaned out and there was no way of ensuring the money which now went sour. Over big goverment regulation did not cause this finicial mess in fact most of the manufacturing that has returned to the United States is because of regulation passed by dod frank reform act, not bussiness handling it 100% their way, in fact most of the companies investing overseas use JP morgan and Goldman sachs who are both based overseas (and are profitting from the Europen finicial crisis by demanding that Europe pay all their money to them which in addition the euro has a higher value than the US dollar) to invest in by explioting the undifferated earnings loophole (which allows money to refirated back to the United States tax free) and foreighn tax credit (which allows you to deduct from the forighn taxes you pay and pay litteraly nothing). Of course Bush tried to worn us, but at the same time he also backed the home loan inetitive to promote home purchases by low income families.
