That's an Orange. And I hate how Pop-sci calls it a green energy source, the orange is just the catalyst the materials that are used up are the iron and copper, any middle school kid knows this.

You're right to say that the orange battery is not a "green" energy source. However, you need to look up the meaning of "catalyst". While you're at it, look up "electrolyte".

I know that it is an electrolyte, but it is acting as a catalyst to the reaction, it isn't the part making the electricity, only allowing it too happen at a faster rate. A catalyst makes a reaction happen quicker, iron and copper with an air gap would also produce electricity, but only in the minutest amount. The electrolyte in the orange is making this take place many many times faster.

I was home schooled, so that makes a difference, but how far we've fallen if a middle schooler doesn't know how an lemon battery works. I was making my own batteries by about the time I was 8 years old.
It was Mr. Wizard, that's why I knew all the "Neat" stuff.
